CNY 2012.
Happy birthday D! :)
Chinese New Year 2012 was pretty much like the past years, only the festive atmosphere seems to have died down little by little. We kickstarted CNY with a reunion dinner at my mum's mum's house, where we had steamboat for dinner, followed by a reunion dinner on 除夕 at my place with my father's side, also with steamboat. On 初一 we went to my grandma's house in the morning to visit and to 拜年. My father's side came over again for another reunion dinner. It's great to be able to see all my relatives together as one family. After all, it's only once a year we get to see everyone together haha. :)
However things have never really been the same since my aunt from my father's side passed away... Last time when she was around she would drag everyone with her to play mahjong throughout the night at my place, and everyone actually wanted to stay just to accompany her. But now that she isn't with us, our reunion dinners have become somewhat shorter. Everyone no longer has the energy nor stamina to play through the night, which just shows how different things have become since my aunt left us... and even though no one says anything, I can feel that she's dearly missed amongst all of us. We just don't want to ruin the festive mood - whatever there is left. You'll always be remembered in our hearts, dear aunt.
Sometimes I really dislike having a large house. I'm not saying that I don't want any reunion dinners at my place, but it's just so troublesome to get the house ready for them to come, and then cleaning up after they've left. And it's just for one night. My place is nice, I mean I'm not complaining about that, but many a times I feel that it lacks that homey feeling. I've stepped into other people's houses that just consist of one storey with four rooms but it really had that homey feel. I'd much rather have a house that's small but cozy and homey than a big mansion that doesn't feel like home at all. Actually I prefer smaller houses, really. Where it's less easy to lose things in the house and it's easier to keep things simple and neat.
Anyway, Chinese New Year this year wasn't too eventful for me, felt like we were just going through the motions. It's back to school tomorrow after a long weekend, with English and Chem tests... :/ Haven't studied at all for any of them, just hope I'll pull through this week of school somehow, and then next week it'll be orientation!
