HCJC Orientation 2012.
04 February 2012 | 0 comments
First week of Orientation has ended!! I really didn't know whether to look forward to it or not last weekend, but now after one week I feel so happy together with OG18 and sad because the week of Orientation with our OGs has ended. Seniors were absolutely right in saying that Orientation will be our best time in JC (although we haven't experienced the bulk of JC yet HAHA). OG18 was really awkward at first, but as the days went by we started communicating more and really started to bond as an OG, it became so fun! The guys were damn funny fooling around with each other and making jokes all the way, while the girls just sat there watching them and laughing.

The four days just went by so quickly I can't even recall everything clearly now. ): But I shall recollect the best moments in OG18 :D

Day 1. (31 Jan)
The first day was the most awkward (obviously). There was that automatic clear divide between guys and girls and the clear lack of communication with anyone. Our OG was terribly quiet throughout the icebreaker games (which kind of didn't break much ice, maybe the ice just melted a little bit), only with the occasional laugh from some of us. I think our OGL Zhao Yong was very awkward from seeing us being so awkward with each other HAHA. But we all love him because he's cool and awesome :D Still remember how all the other OGs were doing cheers already on the first day (which really amazed me and admittedly made me a bit jealous) and ZY just told us, "See, with a low profile OGL like me, you don't have to cheer! Aren't you happy?" Haha that must have broken up the ice a little more!

Icebreaker games included remembering and reciting people's names as well as the game where we had to run three steps and try to touch another person's hands... yeap it was awkward alright.

After games we went back to the hall for SODACHE! It was an awesome first session, and I was really moved that practically everyone was singing and cheering and dancing together with everyone else. :) Learning the batch song caused me to fall in love with it immediately, it's such a wonderful song that reflects clearly on our first few days in JC.

Batch Song 2012: Me & You

Lyrics:

It’s the start, a new adventure
We’ve never had before
Take a step, no inhibitions
As we enter open doors

It's that feeling once again
The start of something new
Different people but all singing
the same tune

So sing this song (and we will dance)
All night long (till the dawn)
Here we belong (this is our home)
So let’s hold on (we won’t let go)

Although these days will pass
Our moments last
Memories of just
Me and you

As our time flies by
We’ll treasure every day
‘cos we know this is our story
And we’ll pave our own way

Though it seems a simple journey
There’s a twist at every bend
But we’ll stick together
Till the very end

chorus x1

(slow)
Though it seems a simple journey
There’s a twist at every bend
But we’ll stick together
Till the very end

Chorus + last line
END.

The cheers were really awesome too, with the HC spirit in the air all the way through. The guys from HCI already knew most of the cheers haha, so their voices pretty much dominated the whole hall for the cheering session, which was really quite amusing and fun. :)

Our batch dance for 2012 goes by the song Moves Like Jagger! Which was really hard to learn at first but at least now four days later we're more familiar with it :) I really love the dance though, the choreography is really good! I'm still trying to learn it hahaha. It was quite funny how on the first day the Dance I/Cs were trying to get us to dance immediately after learning to the actual speed of the song, because most of us could never catch all the steps correctly just after practising once. And it was quite awkward when we had to pair up with someone of the opposite gender too haha. The hall had so little space for us to move too ): Which was really sad because we were instead squeezing around everywhere the whole time hahaha.

Day 2. (1 Feb)
The second day was less awkward compared to the first, and we had dry games! :D Can't really remember most of the games, but I remember one particular game, "Recyclone", the first game we went to, where we had to spin 10 rounds on the spot before taking an item and running into a hoolahoop further in front to throw that item into one of three pails which indicate "Plastic", "Paper" and "Metal". It was super funny how everyone couldn't keep their balance after spinning 10 rounds on the spot, the guys especially HAHA. One guy actually ran sideways and then ran one BIG round around the Central Plaza before actually managing to run to the hoolahoop hahahaha. Many of them fell down too in the process of running LOL it was too funny! The guys were all amazed at how the girls could run in a straight line without trying because they couldn't! Good memories... :)

Oh yes we played another game which was something like Captain's Ball but we had to tie one of our hands together with someone of the opposite gender. It was damn fun (for lack of vocabulary) but there was this really TALL guy from the other OG who kept intercepting our balls which made us laugh a lot haha. And obviously we didn't win that game. -_-

In all we only won one game out of five that day lol. But even though we were not any of the top OGs, we undoubtedly became one of the most bonded OGs. :) It didn't matter whether we won or not; what mattered most is that we had fun! Although ZY was damn shocked that we only won one game HAHA.

SODACHE that day was pretty much the same, learning new songs and new cheers. And for DA the Dance I/Cs actually prepared a slowed-down version of Moves Like Jagger! It sounded damn weird and I think it was a bit too slow haha but at least we managed to catch all the steps with the slow music this time! :D

We had an OG dinner that night at Bukit Timah Plaza, and many secrets were revealed. ^^ Especially when we played Truth or Dare (somehow everyone chose Truth instead of Dare). We were laughing non-stop because of the guys as usual fooling around with each other and gaying around, making crude comments and stuff haha. That night we really bonded a lot :D

Day 3. (2 Feb)
Day 3 was filled with wet + dry games! :) Couldn't really play wet games because of the floodgates but in the end I just didn't care and went for them. Played some really cool games, although we didn't manage to play Slippery Slope that day because of the wet weather ): But anyway I can't remember much about the games, other than the fact that there were some disputes for some of the games over who won the round and stuff, and I think the game facilitators probably became really angry and annoyed with us. ): ZY was also quite disappointed when he debriefed us that day, saying that although he said he wanted us to win more, that didn't mean we had to become so competitive. Felt quite bad that day ): Like I said earlier, it's more important to have fun than to win every game.

SODACHE was the usual fun :) Really like some of the songs that they taught us like 当你孤单你会想起谁 and 只为那爱我愿, and I'm not one to listen to any Chinese songs whatsoever haha.

OG had a dinner that night too but I couldn't go because of piano lesson ):

Day 4. (3 Feb)
Wet games all the way!! And we finally got our Slippery Slope. :) We had to pair up with someone and climb up the slippery slope, rather similar compared to the one we had during the Combined Baptist Youth Camp last year. Paired up with Jia Wei and it was so funny because we always climbed to almost the top before either of us slides down and drags the other down too hahahaha. We tried a total of four times and never got to the top ONCE. ): But I think falling was the best part!

By the fourth day all of us were really tired, but I was so glad that everyone was still running on adrenaline and still being really enthusiastic for games :) Cheered our hearts out after every game as usual, and that day we won four out of five games!! Which really brought us so much further because for the previous days we only won one game each day.

Went for yet ANOTHER OG dinner that night, in Bukit Timah Plaza again and went to play pool after dinner. By then we were really bonded, not awkward anymore like the first day :) So glad that OG18 has come so far in the past four days, and I'm sure we'll have lots more hangouts in the future ;)

Gonna look forward to next week's Orientation with CTs! :) Hopefully with such an awesome OG, I'll have an even more awesome CT! And I really hope so because these two years in JC will pretty much be spent with them :/ Can't wait to see what Faculty I'm in too, and I'm gonna try out for Council! :)
