Vietnam trip.

I'm posting this from Vietnam! :) How nice that the hotel here provides a computer in every room and we can use it for free haha. Gonna post some photos of what we've done for the past few days, but pardon me for the poor quality because these were taken directly from my phone without any editing.

Really didn't expect much for the accommodation so the fact that we had a really pretty hotel surprised me. Here's a photo of the lights in the lobby; the hotel is just really white and pretty and classy. It really makes the stay here a lot more worthwhile and relaxing because we don't have to worry about finding insects in the same place where we sleep and so on.

Some of the Christmas decorations in the city; they're really quite elaborate and remind me of Orchard because these decorations and lights line the roads as well. Sometimes I forgot that we are in Vietnam because everything here just looks so modernised and commercialised, which is really a lot more than I imagined it to be - not a bad thing!

Yesterday we took a tour to one of the war sites of the Vietnam war, and we were told about how the guerrilla soldiers strategised for the war - the traps they used, how they set up underground caves and tunnels, etc. We were able to experience the way the soldiers crawled through tunnels, how they made sure there was air ventilation, what they ate, and even the kind of propaganda movies they watched.

These two photos above show some of the booby traps used against their enemies; really scary because they usually have spikes which as we can imagine pierced through the enemy's body if they fell into the trap.

Hidden underground access!

Today we visited the Mekong river - witnessing how the locals make caramelised popcorn rice, rice paper, coconut sweets, as well as various other local delicacies. Was a little pissed off today actually because the tour guide was kind of flirting with me throughout the tour (which lasted the whole day) and it made me very uncomfortable. Most of the time I didn't know how to reply him and just kept quiet (maybe it made me seem like a very cold person).

Anyway, the locals also sang a few songs for us which were so animated and funny even though I couldn't understand a single word they were saying. Vietnamese also have this instrument I've never seen before - it's a block-like instrument with a single string that is plucked, and at one end a rod is attached that can be used as a lever to create a portemento effect which was pretty cool.

We also ate this elephant ear fish during lunch that we wrapped in rice paper together with vegetables and spices.

Ending this post with a selfie taken on the boat! Maybe I'll post a second part to the trip :)
